A Life in Pottery
George Lowe has dedicated more than 50 years to the art and craft of pottery. What began as an interest in clay became a lifelong pursuit and a career as both an educator and studio artist.
George earned a BA in Art from Luther College and an MFA in Ceramics from Wichita State University. He spent more than 20 years teaching and sharing his knowledge through colleges, schools, and workshops before establishing his studio in Decorah, Iowa in 1999.

Pottery with Purpose
George creates wheel-thrown functional stoneware with an appreciation for simple forms and the character of handmade objects.
His work is meant to be more than something to look at. Cups, bowls, vessels, and serving pieces are created to be held and used — bringing a little of the warmth and individuality of handmade pottery into everyday life.
After more than five decades working with clay, George continues to find inspiration in the process and possibility of creating the next piece.
The Studio
Lowe Pottery is created at George’s studio in Decorah, Iowa, where he continues to produce his work by hand.
